Palawan is home to 2 UNESCO Site, Tubattaha Reef and the longest underground river in the world, Subterranean River in Sabang.
The island constantly landed in a prestigious travel magazine as one of the top islands to visit in Asia and in the world, on it’s yearly issue. I wont contest, if you see it yourself, you wont either.
I have been travelling around best beaches in the Philippines and in Asia, and I fell in love with Palawan, since then, there is nothing more that excites me, than being in the island.
So, in this post, I will share you the top 10 Unique Activities in Palawan, in no particular order.
#1 Dive Tubbataha Reef
Since divers discovered Tubbataha in the late 1970s, it has become recognised as one of the most remarkable coral reefs on our planet. The CNN travel website, cnngo.com, ranks it among the top eight dive sites in the world.
Because of its isolated location, Tubbataha can only be visited on a liveaboard boat. Divers can experience the reefs' dramatic underwater terrain, awe-inspiring biodiversity and encounter large marine animals such as sharks, turtles and manta rays.
Dive Season
Tubbataha’s dive season is just three months long, running from mid-March until mid- June. At this time of year diving conditions are usually optimum – clear skies, calm seas and visibility between 30 and 45 meters.
#2 Visit Underground river and eat local delicacy “Tamilok”
Underground River is the longest underground river in the world, expanding to up to 24 km long from its cave entrance.
The river winds through the cave before flowing directly into the West Philippine Sea and is navigable by boat up to 4.3 kilometres (2.7 mi) from the sea. The cave includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers, including the 360-metre-long (1,180 ft) Italian's Chamber with approximate 2.5 million square meters volume.
This is one of the largest cave room in the world.
#3 Fish with local Fishermen
This activity is unique, in such a way that you will be fishing with real local fishermen, and learn how to fish the local traditional way of fishing. Yes, locals are still using local ways to fish, even with its abundant supply. Large fishing boats are not allowed within the Palawan Island.
